When we went to Palm Desert for a week (see this post and this post), we spent a day visiting Joshua Tree National Park. I’ve always wanted to visit and we had an amazing time driving through the park.
Joshua Tree National Park is named after the Joshua tree, or Yucca brevifolia, a Yucca tree that is native to the park. The park include parts of two deserts, the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert. It’s the most unique park I have ever been to. I loved all the Joshua Trees, all the interesting formations of bare rock and loose boulders, and the colors of the desert landscape. Near the entrance of the park we saw a sign that said “Tarantula crossing”, so you bet I watched my steps when I was outside the car! We drove to a lookout point called Keys View that had a stunning panoramic view of the Coachella Valley and San Andreas Fault.
People often ask me about how I take my photos when I travel. Damon takes all the photos where it’s just me, and when it comes to photos of the both of us, I use my Canon 5D Mark III on manual mode on a tripod. I used to use a wireless remote controller, but I’ve misplaced two of them already so now I just use the 10-sec timer. I think it works really well. Friendly strangers will offer to take our photo when they see me setting up my tripod, but I politely decline because my own photos turn out way better! You just have to bring a tripod and find a place to set up. We had some pretty funny bloopers that I’m sharing on my Instagram stories today (@jennyliublog).
In a few days it will be the two-year anniversary of my first date with Damon. I can’t imagine living life without Damon and I thank God every day that he is in my life.
