Last weekend Damon and I went to Tofino, BC with his family to celebrate his mom’s 70th birthday. He and his sister planned it and we surprised her with the news a few days before the trip. Tofino is on Vancouver Island and is famous for year-round surfing, whale-watching, and Westcoast-nature-type activities. Damon’s mom had wanted to go for years so this was the perfect surprise.
Tofino is a popular destination for Vancouverites but it’s not an easy one to get to. From downtown Vancouver we drove to West Vancouver and took a 2-hour ferry to Vancouver Island. From there it’s a 3+ hour drive broken down into segments with regular stops for coffee, stretching, and car-sickness-mitigation because the roads are so windy.
The town of Tofino has a distinct surf-town feel. There are a lot of beanies, men with long hair, hitchhikers, hippy craft shops and of course, plaid. I don’t like beanies because they make my hair flat but it was only appropriate that I wore my Rails plaid shirt. It’s the softest, most relaxed, and comfortable shirt ever. We were blessed with amazing weather the entire weekend and there was hardly any rain (except when took these photos lol). Nonetheless I wore my Hunter rain boots the entire weekend and they were perfect for walking on the beach. I don’t know about you but my feet tend to get very cold and Hunter boots are not great for keeping your feet warm. The first time I wore my Hunters I thought my toes were going to fall off (granted I wore them on the snow in Whistler haha). Hunter boot socks help and these down socks look pretty cozy, but what I found works the best is to wear wool socks. I love Smartwool socks and got a pair of Chup for J.Crew Smartwool socks that keep my feet super warm and toasty inside my rain boots. They look cute and they’re on sale. I highly recommend getting a pair.
