你好 from Beijing! I want to share the products that I take with me when I travel. I’m a serious beauty and skincare junkie so products that make the cut when I travel are the products I love and absolutely can’t live without.
First, my makeup essentials:
1. Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup SPF 15
The most well-traveled beauty product and admittedly the only drugstore product of the bunch, I’ve used this for many years and have one in my purse at all times. It gives me medium coverage with sun protection. I put it on with my Jane Iredale Handi brush, which I’ve had for many years and is the perfect brush for powder foundations.
2. Armani Maestro Fusion Foundation (reviewed here)
Natural, light-weight, and a dream to apply. It’s unlike any other liquid foundation I’ve ever tried.
3. NARS The Multiple in Portofino
It blends easily with fingers for that glow-from-within look and doesn’t break into pieces like powder foundations if I drop it on the floor. It’s a great travel blush and the black tube looks very chic.
4. Burberry Beauty Light Glow Natural Blush in Peony Blush
Blush is my favourite beauty product so I just want to say that I showed a lot of restraint by bringing only two. The Burberry blush comes with it own little brush, which applies blush surprisingly well and is super cute.
5. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze
Great for contouring and for looking healthy and model-esque.
6. MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer
This is the same concealer I’ve used since highschool and I haven’t found a reason to switch to a new one. The SPF 35 is a bonus. (For the under-eye area I use YSL Touche Éclat).
7. Shu Uemura eyelash curler (available here for a discounted price)
Hailed as the industry standard in eyelash curlers, this is the first (and sometimes only) step of my eye makeup routine. Makes my super-straight Asian eyelashes curly and my eyes look more awake.
8. Geisha Ink Liquid Eyebrow Liner
& 9. Lancôme Powder Pencil for the Brows
The unassuming black pen in the photo is the Geisha Ink Liquid Eyebrow Liner, which is the best eyebrow pen I’ve ever used. I’ve had it for over half a year and it hasn’t dried yet, which has been my biggest complaint with other eyebrow pens. When I want more definition and thickness I use the Lancôme pencil, feather the color on, and brush it out with the brush on the other end of the pencil.
10. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink
It’s the products you use most often that end up being left at home. I usually never travel without my MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack but I used it right before my flight and forgot to pack it, so I bought Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner on the plane. One perk of long international flights is that you can go shopping in between sleeping and watching movies. Both eyeliners are great, but if I had to pick one, I would go with the MAC Fluidline because it lasts longer on my eyelids and doesn’t dry out in the pot nearly as quickly as the Bobbi Brown eyeliner. I apply my liner with an angled brush, which is the perfect tool for the job.
11. Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl Eyeliner in Black Coffee
I use this to line my waterline if I’m going out at night or shooting photos. I prefer brown over black because it’s a more toned-down dramatic look.
12. Burberry Beauty Sheer Eyeshadow in Taupe Brown
This is hands down my favorite eyshadow. I have a lot of eyeshadows but I use this one 95% of the time. It’s creamy (if a powder can be described as creamy), soft, and very blendable. I have a lot of brushes (did I mention I love beauty products?), but I prefer to use my ring finger to apply the color to my lids. Taupe Brown is a great color for my Asian skintone.
13. Deborah Lippmann ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ nail polish
I like to use my own nail polish at mani pedis so I bring a nail polish with me when I travel in case I go get my nails done. It’s more hygienic and I won’t be limited by the color options at the nail salon.
14. Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm (reviewed here)
15. Chanel Coco Shine in No. 60 Antigone
16. Bobbi Brown Creamy Lipstick in Italian Rose
17. Burberry Lip Cover in Primrose Hill Pink No. 30
18. Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro Lip Stain
I brought a collection of lip colors ranging from every day to statement looks. Chanel Coco Shine is the most moisturizing and my favorite one to wear every day. My favorite colors are No. 60, 61, and 62. Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Lip Balm is usually my most-used lip product but I don’t like to use my fingers to apply lip balm when I’m on the road so this one was limited to when I was home. Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro packs the greatest punch when it comes to pigment and longevity. You won’t need to reapply for probably the whole day, but it can be tricky to use (my trick is to blot and reapply several times). It’s a similar stain to the Stila liquid lipstick if you’ve tried that. For moisturizing, I use La Mer ‘The Lip Balm’ before bed and Chanel Hydra Beauty Lip Balm during the day.
19. Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Travel Spray
This has been my favorite scent to wear for the past year. It’s a very happy scent that is light, citrusy, and refreshing.
Contact Lenses
If you’re a contact lens wearer, I have a tip for you: Travel with one-day contact lenses. I used to wear monthly contact lenses and had to travel with a lens case and bottles of contact lens solution. It was a hassle. Single day lenses was a huge game changer for me. You end up spending six times more every month, but they are significantly more comfortable, more hygienic, more convenient for travel.
