In my previous post I talked about how my resolution this year is to use and enjoy the things I have instead of defaulting to my habit of saving them and keeping them in the package unused. Knowing I have that tendency, it’s very satisfying to finish products. My friend Lisa does a monthly blog post dedicated to skincare products she’s used up, or “empties” as we call it in the blogging world. What better way to review a product than to use up the entire bottle? I love reading her empties posts and I’m starting my own with my first empties of 2020, which I used up during my trip to Maui. I hope to have many more of these this year, including some makeup that hits the pan (also super satisfying).
May Coop Raw Sauce mini, $14 – I was first introduced this by Costco’s Case Full of Seoul Korean beauty set. I wish I bought more sets, to be honest. It was only available in the US and I had it shipped to my friend Dorothy’s house in Washington. There were some great products in the set, including the May Coop Raw Sauce. It’s make of 93% maple tree sap, which sounds like it would be sticky but it’s a thick essence that does an amazing job of hydrating my skin. I’ve since purchased it from Peach and Lily two or three times, and I already have another bottle (the large size) lined up.

Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal & Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo, $55 for full 8oz size. I got it in a Briogeo mini kit for $23. I’m drawn to anything charcoal and exfoliating for hair, because I feel like there aren’t enough exfoliating products out there for scalp. This shampoo contains binchotan charcoal, micro-exfoliators, tea tree oil and cooling peppermint. I dislike cooling ingredients in hair products, but I went for this anyway (limited options). I find that I use a lot of product per shampoo, maybe because it doesn’t foam very much? I like that I get a very deep clean, and I like anything that encourages me to give myself a head massage. I actually didn’t mind the cooling sensation as much as I thought I would. Ultimately, this is a great product and I liked how it made my hair and scalp feel. Perhaps I’d shout it from the rooftops more if it came out of a squeeze tube, I just don’t love opening containers with wet hands. Have any of you tried the Charcoal & Tea Tree Scalp Treatment? I’m interested in trying. Will I repurchase? I think so.
Peace Slices Acne Spot Dots, $4.49. Damon and I have gone through 2 packages of these and we just opened a brand new one. They come in different sizes and it’s satisfying when you wake up and you can see that it’s absorbed your whitehead. Gross but awesome.

Aw thanks for the shout-out! Love how detailed you went with your empties reviews. The May Coop Raw Sauce comes in a surprisingly cute bottle, and the Briogeo exfoliating shampoo sounds interesting. I’ve been using an exfoliating scalp scrub from Not Your Mother’s Naturals lately, which sounds like a similar concept/formulation but without the cooling ingredients.
