In a perfect world I would set aside time two days a week where I light a Diptyque candle, ritualistically apply a mud mask, lounge in a beautiful robe for 10-20 minutes, and remove the mask to reveal baby-smooth pore-free glowing skin. In my world I don’t own a Diptyque candle, I fall asleep for 4 hours with a mask on my face whenever I try to “relax” or “lounge” in a horizontal position, and I used to be discouraged from applying mud masks because removing them was such a difficult and messy process. I didn’t want to use a wash cloth that I would have to later clean and dry, and even when I used a whole stack of cotton pads it took so much scrubbing to get all of it off.
I purchased an Aveda Shammy Cloth many years ago because I read reviews that said it was great for cleansing. It never became a part of my cleansing routine because I prefer to use my hands and my Clarisonic when I remember to use it. One day I was about to tackle the difficult task of removing my mud mask and I remembered I had the shammy cloth, so I tried it for mask removal. It was amazing. It removed my mud mask SO easily. It was such an amazing discovery and I’ve been using it for masks ever since.
The shammy cloth washes clean in seconds, dries almost immediately, and is a dream for taking off my GLAMGLOW Youthmud mask, Origins Clear Improvement mask, and other mud masks I recently bought from places like Lush, Glossier and Herbivore Botanicals.
What are your favorite mud masks, and how do you remove them?
