Dates nights are one of the things I look forward to the most after a long week. Whether it’s with a girlfriend, my mom, or my favourite, with my guy, I think it’s a really special time. I’m definitely more a one-on-one person than a big group sort of person, so quality one-on-one time makes me very happy. For date nights at a nice restaurant*, I like to wear something feminine and something I won’t be wearing to the office. I like to leave my 50lb purse at home in exchange for something small, like a little clutch or just a nice wallet. I used to think heels are an absolute must, but when the weather is nice a walk after dinner can be really romantic. I’ve worn the occasional flats on date nights this summer – younger Jenny would have been horrified, but older Jenny is pragmatic!
A quick word on date nights with your significant other. For me, date night is not about going somewhere fancy (though it certainly could be), but it’s about making an intentional effort to prioritize the relationship. I think a lot of guys find it daunting to plan date nights and think that they have to do something really big and expensive for their girl in order to be successful, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. For me, as long as there is a plan (by that I mean at least several days to a week in advance) and I get the feeling that spending time with me is a priority, I’ll swoon. Gents, us ladies really are not that difficult, we just want to feel special. Thoughtfulness goes a long way. We want to spend time with you too, so when you take the initiative to plan and schedule quality time together, it feels amazing and trust me, it will pay big dividends in the relationship.

*Miku was a recent one for me, followed by a walk around the waterfront (in flats!). It was a great night and it makes me happy whenever I think about it.
