I went on a trip to San Francisco last week to to spend some quality girl-time with my friend Catherine. It was my first time in San Francisco and we managed to pack many fun things into a four day trip, while still keeping it relaxed and restful.

Highlights include: Driving by vineyards in Sonoma, visiting UC Berkeley, waking up to a delicious breakfast and smoothie every morning (thanks Catherine), sleeping over at the beautiful home of Melissa from Wine with Dinner (she served her Turkey Meatballs), visiting the Google campus, driving by Facebook’s thumb up sign, going to a day club (clubbing in the afternoon. Love the concept), and visiting Stanford, where these photos were taken.  

A friend of mine asked me what surprised me the most on this trip. Here’s a list:

5 lane highways – It’s not like we drive on one-lane streets behind tractors in Vancouver, but the size of highways in the US always surprise me.

Flat vineyards – The Okanagan wine region in BC is filled with vineyards of various slopes, but every vineyard that I’ve seen there has at least a slight slope. I’m fascinated by the agricultural aspects of wine making, so it was interesting to see some vineyards that were completely flat in Sonoma.

How beautiful Stanford was – I was not expecting Stanford to be so beautiful. Scroll down for more photos. Look at the palm trees! 

Size of the Bay Area – I thought the Bay Area was a neighborhood in San Francisco. I had no idea it encompassed other cities like Oakland and San Jose. 

My friend Catherine’s hosting skills – What a treat it was to stay with someone with the gift of hosting! I hope I can do the same when my friends stay with me.

Google – the Google campus is amazing. I would feel so entitled working there! I can certainly get used to the perks! 

Weather – It was 26 deg C (almost 80F) when I was there! What a treat. Cali residents have it good.
