I recently bought several items in J. Crew’s double-serge wool material, including the sheath dress I’m wearing in this post and two pencil skirts, one worn in this post. The other fabric that I often buy from J. Crew is its Super 120s wool, which is more of your typical suiting material. I love the Super 120s fabric and own several pencil skirts and sheath dresses in that fabric (see an outfit here). The double-serge wool is a thicker and heavier material than the Super 120s wool and I think it’s perfect for the cool weather we’ve been having. The weight and texture of the material has slightly vintage feel to it. The double-serge wool dresses and pencil skirts are lined, so you don’t have to worry about scratchy material. Even though it falls nicely and gives a nice shape, double-serge wool tends to show wrinkles a little more and is slightly less forgiving than Super 120s wool, but is not bad and much better than some other fabrics. I paired this dress with an oversized pearl necklace, suede pumps, deep red nails and lips, and a sleek black bag. I felt very Mad Men.
