Damon and I had dinner at my parent’s house this weekend and we exchanged Christmas gifts since it was technically our Christmas dinner, LOL. My family had a dinner together on Christmas Eve and they invited Damon and I over on Boxing Day but decided to reschedule since they were in the middle of a renovation. It was pretty funny to see my parents open their gifts in late January. It was almost a Chinese New Year dinner, but my parents assured me we’d be having an official CNY dinner (maybe in April? jk).
I’m making an effort to cook at home whenever possible so instead of ordering an eggplant and basil for takeout I bought the ingredients to try to replicate the dish at home tonight. The recipe I found called for 3 serrano peppers and after I added the peppers to my wok the air got so spicy that I started coughing and sneezing nonstop. Damon asked me if I’d removed the seeds from the pepper and I realized it hadn’t occurred to me to do so (and the recipe didn’t say so). Our entire apartment was filled with spicy air and the only way I could breathe without coughing was to breathe with my head outside the window LOL. To reduce the heat we added vinegar and mixed in Greek yogurt. It was tasty but definitely the most spicy thing I’ve ever made.
I highly recommend the Steve Madden nude sandals that I’m wearing. They’re affordable, comfortable, and very flattering. They come in over 10 colors and I really hope the velvet and gold ones get restocked in my size. Ugh they’re so pretty. I want to get the wraparound ankle version of these sandals too.
I love all of the limited edition Chinese New Year beauty products this year. There’s a MAC Chinese New Year Collection, a Shu Uemura Chinese New Year Balm and a very pretty YSL Chinese New Year cheek palette.
How do you celebrate Chinese New Year?
