Hi everyone, happy holidays! I’ve been spending my Christmas holiday in Whistler with my family. It’s the third year in a row that we’ve come here for the holidays. I like how it’s turned into a nice little tradition. It has been a true winter wonderland here, with lots of snow, pretty Christmas lights everywhere, and very cold weather. I love it when winter feels like winter. I love bundling up in toques, sweaters, and gloves, seeing my breath in the air, drinking hot chocolate, hearing the crunch of snow beneath my feet, freezing my fingers off, all of it.
Before I left Vancouver I did a little shopping and bought my first pair of Hunter boots. I feel like such a Vancouverite lol! I also bought a pair of boot socks that look cute and help to keep my feet warm, but mainly because they look cute. I also bought a merino wool sweater dress that I am very happy with. Is made of a knit fabric that contains alpaca, which means it’s warm and soooo soft. It hugs my body in the most flattering and comfortable way. I highly recommend getting this or a similar sweater dress. Your closet will thank you. This Club Monaco sweater dress is similar and very soft.
Let me tell you about one of the adventures I’ve had on holiday so far. I went skiing on Christmas day with two friends. We were making our way up to the peak on a chairlift on either our first or second run of the day, and I took my phone carefully out of my chest pocket to take a chairlift group selfie. I had put my drivers license and credit card in my chest pocket as well and as I was taking my phone out I thought 1) don’t drop the phone and 2) I should put my cards in a different pocket. As I was thinking this, one of my cards came out of my pocket and flew away behind me down into nowhere before I could stop it.
My friends found the nearest sign and took note of the trail we were above (I will forever remember the name McConkey’s). They also noted that I dropped my card into the depths of a black run, opps. Turns out it was my driver’s license that I’d lost, which was both good and bad. I’m glad it wasn’t my AMEX because my brother broke my other credit card in half so it was the only credit card I had for the holidays. However, I was driving to Vancouver the next morning to meet my friend Catherine for brunch so I needed my driver’s license. It was also bad because my BC driver’s license is white! Like, the color of snow.
The black run where I lost my driver’s license was a very short run that doesn’t appear on Whistler trail map, but my friend was navigator extraordinaire and led us there via challenging ungroomed sections of the mountain. Finding the run was a miracle and I’m so thankful for my friends! Next step was making our way down a challenging black run while trying to look for a white card without knowing where to look (a friend of mine said that when this happens to him and his friends, they throw down a pole to mark the area. Good idea!)
We were about a quarter of the way down when I heard my friend yell, “JENNY YOU ARE SO LUKCY! SOOOOOO LUCKY!”
He found my driver’s license! It wasn’t covered by any snow and the bar code was facing up making it easier to spot. I couldn’t believe it!
I’ll tell you more of my adventures in the next post!
