Lip products are the products I purchase the most of and enjoying trying the most. There are so many shades, formulas, and textures to try and I love discovering new favorites. Unlike foundations, there are so many colors that can look great on a person. I love changing up my look with different lip colors. My collection is growing steadily to my boyfriend’s dismay, and I really should find a better way to organize them. I’ve outgrown my 9-lipstick case a long time ago and I’m sad to say they’re all over the place at the moment. I’m thinking of getting this 36-lipstick holder or how about this amazing 168-lipstick holder?
Here are some of my newest lip discoveries that I recommend. Give them a try for Valentine’s Day!
The first of the best lip products I discovered in the last year is the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick. It’s one of my favorite everyday lipsticks. I was never a fan of matte lipsticks until I discovered Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution (and Glossier Generation G, also on this list). It’s not drying, it doesn’t make my lips look older, and it doesn’t have any of the unflattering effects I associate with matte lipsticks. I wear the colors Amazing Grace and Secret Selma, and they’re both comfortable, hydrating, and fills up my lips for a nice beautiful look. I used to be all about sheer shine lipsticks, but now that I wear more matte lipsticks I find that overall it draws more attention to my skin, cheeks, and eyes.
The Charlotte Tilbury ‘Hop Lips’ collection was made in collaboration with 12 celebrities, like Kim Kardashian, Kate Bosworth, and Miranda Kerr. They come in the Matte Revolution shades and K.I.S.S.I.N.G shades. I wear the color Secret Selma, inspired by Selma Hayek.
My fellow beauty blogger friend Aleja from The Beauty Surfer introduced me to YSL Vinyl Cream Lip Stain. She featured it in a video about her favorite lip stains which included a few of my favorite products like Lipstick Queen’s Frog Prince and Benefit Benetint. I tried the Vinyl Cream Lip Cream in 412 and was immediately sold. Vinyl cream is an apt description for the product. It glides on super easily and comfortably like a cream, “sets” as a stain after about 10 seconds and looks a beautiful and natural stain. I love it.
Kylie Lip Kit in Kristen – Ah. Kylie’s Lip Kit. Yes I totally ordered a bunch of stuff to try to see if it was worth all the hype. I did some research before the holidays and decided on Kristen plus some holiday colors. My first impression was that I love the lip pencil. Smooth, creamy and easy to use to outline my lips. I have to say that it’s also pretty good value. Under $30 for a liquid lipstick and a lip liner is pretty good! The liquid lipstick was surprisingly great. You put it on with a gentle hand because a little goes a long way and after it sets it’s SET. Like, the color stayed on my lips for more than 6 hours. The best part is that there is minimal transfer. Sure, if I drink tea some comes off on my mug as I’d expect but it I kiss my boyfriend it doesn’t transfer on him, bonus! I’ve heard and also experienced that the formula depends on the color. Kristen felt great on my lips but the other colors I tried were more drying. My friends who tried other colors said the staying power varies too. I recommend giving Kristen a try. It’s one of the more universally flattering colors.
Glossier Generation G lipstick is another matte lipstick favorite. I bought it in Zip, Crush and Jam. I love all three colors, especially Zip and Jam. The skinny tubes make them extremely easy to pack and the small cylindrical shape makes them easy to apply too (no smearing on the outside of your lips like some lipsticks when you wear off the top pointy part). On a regular day when your lips are happy, these lipsticks are great. If your lips are chapped, I would moisturize them first before applying Generation G. Overall, a great product from Glossier!
