My boyfriend and I had afternoon tea at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport a couple of weeks ago to celebrate his 30th birthday. I went there for afternoon tea with my family last year and loved the view and ambiance so I knew it would be a great place to go to with my airplane-loving boyfriend. Coincidentally, he ended up having a flight booked on the same day for a work trip and the timing of our reservation and his flight worked out perfectly.
I love afternoon tea. It’s such a relaxed, unhurried event where the only decisions I have to make are what kind of tea to order (usually creamy Earl Grey), which mini sandwich to eat first, and which one of the twenty photos I took from four different angles I should post on Instagram (I posted this one). We took our time eating, talking, and watching planes take off. We loved the restaurant’s peaceful atmosphere. Fairmont YVR is part of the airport but doesn’t feel like the airport at all. It’s quiet and beautiful, and I am certain that the restaurant entrance corridor is scented because it smells amazing, like the house of a stylish rich person.
Afternoon tea at the Fairmont is not cheap ($42 per adult plus steep airport parking) but lucky for me I was able to find a two for one deal that included parking (Asian cultural stereotypes are true!) . Right now Groupon has a deal for afternoon tea at Fairmont YVR, and if that expires I recommend checking Social Shopper and other deal sites.
I have to mention that these photos are the first ones I shot with my new camera body! I upgraded from the Canon T3i, my faithful companion for the last two years, to the Canon 5D Mark III right before New York Fashion Week. To say I love it would be an understatement.
What are your favourite places to go for afternoon tea, both in your city or around the world?
