One of my key style philosophies is to buy clothes with high quality natural fabric. The five natural fabrics I’m featuring today are cashmere (of course!), silk, leather, calf hair, and tweed. Wool deserves an honorary spot because it is my material of choice for suits and pencil skirts. A wardrobe with non-trendy pieces made in luxurious materials will last season after season. Quality does not come cheap, but neither is the cost of replacing one-season clothes that fall apart after a few washes (you all know what I’m talking about!) There’s something so satisfying about pulling out cashmere sweaters and silk tops from your closet in the morning as you pick out your outfit and feeling the fabric between your fingers. Synthetics have come a long way, but they’ve yet to match the breathability, movement, and feel of real leather. Calf hair and tweed inject dimension and texture to an outfit and add embellishment in a subtle way.
