I love how a structured blazer can immediately take an outfit up a few notches. You can’t go wrong with a wool blazer for business events. If I’m not wearing a full suit, I like to pair blazers with a dress or a silk top for a more feminine look. Some blazers like the one I’m wearing have a pretty lining that you can show off if you roll up the cuffs. The two places I always go to for blazers are Banana Republic (Petites) and Aritzia. They carry blazers that fit my hard-to-fit narrow shoulders.
A skinny (or wide) belt for the waist (as opposed to the hips) is a must-have in my wardrobe. I can use a belt to cinch my waist and give my body a nice shape when the outfit I’m wearing does not have a natural waistline. As a shorter person with a long torso, I can use a belt to shorten my torso and lengthen my legs. Your belt should go around the narrowest part of your waist to give you the best shape. I’ve collected a number of different colored skinny belts that I love to wear with dresses and long tank tops. I wear the black one most often, but I love how a belt can also be used to add a pop of color to my outfit.
I used to think pearls were reserved for very formal occasions or for older ladies, but I’ve decided that pearls are too pretty to be limited to so few occasions. The pearl necklace I’m wearing in the photos are strung closely together, but if you want a more trendy or less formal look, loosely strung pearls are a great option. I love what Nina Garcia wrote in her book, The One Hundred, “But if you wear pearls in a precious way or take them too seriously, they lose their cool. You have to get creative and don’t let ‘em get too snotty [...] They can be real or they can be fake. It really doesn’t matter – but they must never, ever be haughty.”
After shooting at the Texaco gas station, Chris and I went on a little mini adventure through the park. We saw some cool things like an outdoor fireplace, a really random couch in the middle of the park, and a bridge with graffiti underneath. I also learned that Chris can levitate!
I can’t believe I hiked through mud in my Michael Kors Bromley boots! They are extremely comfortable, but I’m still getting the mud out. It was a fun little adventure. I hope you enjoy the photos below!

I’m excited to share these photos with you because they feature two of my new favorite items and were shot at a very unique location. In these photos I’m carrying my new Pour la Victoire fur bag that I purchased in Orlando, Fl., and my new MICHAEL Michael Kors Bromley riding boots that I got on eBay. I loved wearing my brown Bromley riding boots (featured here) so much that I decided to purchase the black pair as well.
Chris had discovered a decommissioned Texaco gas station in Langley on one of his drives that he thought would be perfect for our shoot. I was really excited when I saw it because I’ve never seen a Texaco gas station in BC , and as far as I know we don’t have any in Canada. How cool and retro, right?
Many thanks to Chris for all the photos. That day was a series of mini photoshoot adventures and I had a blast. I look forward to sharing all the other photos we took with you.

I’m so excited to feature my Michael Kors Bromley riding boots for the first time! They are my first pair of above-the-knee boots and I absolutely love them. I have a hard time fitting into boots because of my, ahem, “athletic” calves so these boots were a dream come true. The stretchy material at the back of the calves and the zipper make these a perfect fit for everyone. See how I can even tuck my jeggings inside? Amazing. I have a callous on my right index finger from all the zipping but it’s worth it. Over-the-knee boots are amazing for lengthening the legs and for making outfits look chic. Oh, did I mention these are taken at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York?
Right after I booked my trip to New York, I envisioned sitting on the Met steps, eating yogurt with Alyssa like Blair Waldorf and Serena Van der Woodsen. There was no yogurt involved, but we had a great time sitting on the steps of the Met taking turns snapping photos.
