I make fun of my best friend Alyssa a lot for owning a million pairs of what I call “pointy” shoes. I joke that they all look the same. Whenever she wears a pair, I say “hey nice shoes, they look like every other pair you own!”. I’m a great friend. Anyway, Alyssa has great style and oxfords look great with skinny jeans. They add a lot of style to an otherwise casual outfit. I found a great selection of oxfords online, threw in a bit of my own style and made this set for Alyssa. I love cashmere scarves and the infinity scarf is very on-trend right now. The mini satchel is a classic Coach style from 1974 – I love that they brought it back. The YSL Muse purse is a classic and it’s currently on my wishlist. The Butter London nail polish in All Hail the Queen is a great color that’s both stylish and appropriate for work.

Uglydolls

I fell in love with Ugly Dolls when I first saw them online a long time ago. The shapes, faces, and expressions of the Ugly Doll characters are hilarious and adorable.

They remind me of the 3-eyed toy aliens from Toy Story.

Each Ugly Doll has a name and a personality (usually naughty!). Uglydolls would make great gifts for new parents, children, and people like me who enjoy things that manage to be cute and weird and hilarious at the same time.

Here are some other things that I love in the Ugly Doll line:

Ugly Guide book and Ugly Doll calendar (comes with lots of stickers!).

During a visit to a children’s bookstore last week, Aryan and I came across a large selection of Ugly Doll plush toys and books. I squealed and I giggled but I decided not to buy one.

My boyfriend Aryan rememebered my overly excited outburst and, being the thoughtful man and boyfriend that he is, surprised me with this last night:

Meet OX, a member of the Ugly Doll family. I crack up everytime I look at him.

Make Your Own Egg McMuffin

Look! It’s an Egg McMuffin maker!

I think this is pretty awesome because my frying pan is big so my fried eggs are always too big for the muffin. I wonder how easy it is to clean. It only makes one though, which is so lame, because it’d take so much work to make a second one. No need to worry, because look! A two-Egg-McMuffin maker!

This is the most romantic breakfast appliance ever, because I can make one for myself and one for my boyfriend. If he’s not around, then I’ll have two all for myself. I don’t even need to scramble eggs. I really want one!

Buy at: amazon.com (good reviews) and probably Walmart and Target. Read another review here.
Price: approx. $30 US for the single and $60 US for the double

Muji Chronotebook (AM/PM Scheduler)

After yesterday’s post on planners, my boyfriend and I shared our thoughts on the different options out there for staying organized and the importance of keeping one’s schedule limited to one medium, whether that be a notebook planner, Outlook, Google Calender, or a wall calendar. Last year I was excited by my iPod Touch’s ability to synch with my computer, and made the mistake of using a notebook agenda as well as the calendar on my Touch. Entering the same notes in two different places was a pain, and as a result I was never sure if something might be missing. I once thought that a separate planner for work and for home would be appropriate, but I only have one life, and having everything in one place was the best way to go. So I’ve tried some different strategies and discovered what works for me in terms of scheduling and found a great Pierre Belvédère planner to use for this year, but I was interested in seeing whether there are any unique planner concepts that I haven’t seen before. And so I present the Muji Chronotebook, which I discovered through Jack Cheng’s website (coincidentally, the post is titled Stuff I Love: Muji Chronotebook, so: instant friendship!).

Unsurprisingly, Muji is a Japanese company. There is no end to the list of things I love about the Japanese, and it just keeps on growing. This notebook won the Judges’ Prize for the 2007 MUJI Award. It is amazing for several reasons. Each page has a clock in the middle representing 12 hours and you can map out your day on the page corresponding to the time on the clock. It automatically allows you to visualize the allotment of time for each task and how it relates to the rest of your day. One of the first things my parents taught me as a child was how to read time on an analog clock, so there’s no better way for me to get a feel of the day than to see it divided like pieces of a pie through an analog clock. I think this concept is simple but brilliant. I can already see myself mapping out a huge chunk of time for sleep. I’m going to stick with my current planner for this year, but I will definitely get one of these in the future.
