This summer has been flying by and it hasn’t slowed down one bit in the last month. I can’t believe it’s almost the end of August! Work has been even more fast-paced than usual and I’ve had the opportunity to go on site several times in different cities in the past few weeks and even flew on a float plane for the first time, which was awesome. As a program manager, going on site, seeing things in person and visiting the construction crews is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job. Sometimes, those trips can get a little rough. For example, on my trip to Vancouver Island two weeks ago I was in a vehicle that was going from site to site on extremely bumpy, uncleared trails, and I thought it was fun to hold on and be rocked off my seat like a roller coaster, and also it certainly wasn’t my first time being in those kinds of road conditions so it came as a complete surprise when as we were driving back into the city on normal city streets I all of a sudden felt a pang of nausea. I thought it would go away and willed with all my might for it to go away. I fought the feeling hard (I did NOT want to get sick) but asked the driver to stop at a public washroom anyway, and as soon as I stepped off the vehicle I knew there was no going back. I barely made it into the washroom before I threw up. Not all of my field visits are that exciting, thankfully, but it’s certainly always an adventure.
This past weekend I visited my friends in Seattle and had a great little reunion. Of course I couldn’t resist doing a little shopping at the Bravern as well, and did not come out empty handed from the Tory Burch store. I got the cutest pair of raffia smoking slippers; they are in the same style as this pair but flat and loafers.
I really like outfits that are balanced by a mixture of loose and fitted items. I’m wearing a boxier silk tee (I love how thick the material is) with a tighter fitting pair of stretchy pants. I think the muted pastel color palette works really well for summer and the dressier materials in the outfit makes it desk-to-dinner ready.
